ZEROHOUR Extra NEWSLETTER:
Welcome to the Prostate Cancer Awareness Month (PCAM) edition of the ZEROHour Extra Eastern Region newsletter. This e-resource is shared quarterly to provide you with useful information on local prostate cancer events, news, and inspiring stories in your community.
Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
There are a number of activities you can get involved with during PCAM to spread prostate cancer awareness: join a Run/Walk, attend a virtual or in-person support group, register for the 2023 Summit, start a Grow & Give team, donate to ZERO, reach out to your city/town for a proclamation, participate in a local community health event, or simply tell your friends, family, and loved ones to talk to their doctors about prostate cancer. Whatever you decide to do, please do your part to make an impact and turn September blue this month. Thank you for all that you do to help those affected by prostate cancer.

Host Practices and Sponsor Highlights
Urology of Virginia, the host practice for the Hampton Roads, VA Run/Walk, has been raising funds in and out of the office in support of their upcoming event on October 15. Led by Race Directors Barbara Napier and Johnnetta Chapman, Urology of Virginia has had several raffles among staff, hosted tables at Norfolk Tides games, and hosted a pop-up shop with local artists. Urology of Virginia is out in the community, making an impact.
The first North Carolina Run/Walk of the year will take place at Long Leaf Park in Wilmington, NC, on September 10. A huge thanks to host practice Wilmington Health Urology and to presenting sponsor Associated Urologists of Southeast North Carolina, for supporting the event and helping to raise awareness about prostate cancer.
A huge shoutout to presenting sponsor Angiodynamics for their support of the New York City, NY Run/Walk taking place on September 17 at Pier 45 at Hudson River Park.
Proton Therapy and Prostate Cancer
New York Proton Center is a proud sponsor of the ZERO East Coast Metro Chapter. In a recent article, Dr. Shaakir Hasan, Radiation Oncologist at New York Proton Center, provides some information on proton therapy, prostate cancer, a stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) clinical trial, and more.
This content is provided in partnership with New York Proton Center.
Welcome Kelly Liberatore to the ZERO Champion family. Kelly is the Race Director for the Philadelphia, PA Run/Walk. She works at Midlantic Urology and has been absolutely wonderful at raising prostate cancer awareness and getting the community engaged with ZERO.
Champion Julianne Wylie has been sharing information about ZERO and prostate cancer while raising funds for her Lehigh Valley, PA Run/Walk team, the Wylie Roadrunners. Julianne has set up a booth next to an ice cream shop and at a karate gym in order to help other families avoid the kind of impact prostate cancer has had on her family.
Thanks to Champion Stephanie Mueller for her amazing efforts as Race Director for the Cleveland, OH Run/Walk. Stephanie is an integral part of why the Cleveland Run/Walk has been so successful returning to an in-person event.

Grow & Give for
Prostate Cancer Awareness
Grow & Give is a couple of months away, but you can start your team today. Grow & Give raises funds for prostate cancer patients and families, while having a fun time growing facial hair or rocking a boldly blue style. You can get your company, police department, barbershop, brewery, or other local organization involved. For example, you can ask your local brewery to hold an event where they might provide a discount for donations, dedicate a portion of proceeds to ZERO, or offer a free beer or product for a specific donation amount.
Grief Support Group
ZERO has a new support group to help address grief for anyone who has lost someone to prostate cancer and might benefit from speaking with others. Friends, family members, partners, and loved ones are welcome to join virtually on the second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
Sign up for the grief support group.
