PSA Screening for HIM Act Cosponsor Request

Dear [Congressman/Congresswoman],

As your constituent and someone who has been impacted by prostate cancer, I'm writing to request your cosponsorship of HR 1176, the Prostate-specific Antigen Screening for High-Risk Insured Men Act (PSA Screening for HIM Act). In 2021, more than 248,530 men across the U.S. will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and more than 34,130 will die of the disease. Among American males, prostate cancer is the most-diagnosed cancer after skin cancer and is the second highest cancer-related cause of death.

The PSA Screening for HIM Act would ensure that men who are at the highest risk for developing aggressive disease, African-American men and those with a family history, are able to access prostate cancer screenings without any cost-sharing barriers.

This legislation would require that private insurers treat two categories of high-risk men -- African Americans and those with a family history of prostate cancer -- as if the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has recommended an "A" or "B" rating for prostate specific antigen (PSA) screening for prostate cancer, meaning that under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) insurance coverage without copays for the test would be guaranteed.

I hope you will join Congressmen Rush and Bucshon as a cosponsor of the PSA Screening for HIM Act, so that we can ensure the men at the highest risk for prostate cancer are able to get screened without any access barriers. For more information and to become a cosponsor, please contact Lauren Citron at Lauren.Citron@mail.house.gov in the office of Congressman Rush.

Thank you,
