Please Help Team Nikituk Spread Awareness!
As many of you know, we lost our Dad and Husband, Paul Nikituk, to prostate cancer 9 years ago. It is hard to believe it has been that long and although time has passed, we do not miss him any less. An otherwise healthy man, the disease was already advanced when he was diagnosed and unfortunately he lost his battle after only 14 months, at the age of 55.
At our Dad's request, the Nikituk ladies have been involved with ZERO - the End of Prostate Cancer ever since - working to spread awareness about the importance of early detection and raise funds for research towards a cure. It has been a great way to keep our Dad's memory alive! This is our 9th year participating in ZERO's annual Prostate Cancer Run/Walk, and while it is Team Nikituk's biggest fundraising event for ZERO, our efforts continue throughout the year. We attend ZERO's annual Summit to meet with our Congressmen to discuss the importance of maintaining funds for research, participate in local health fairs to raise awareness, and take every opportunity we can to share our story and encourage men to get tested. This year, while vacationing in Italy, our Mom encouraged a man with a family history of the disease to go get his PSA, despite his fears of doing it! Our efforts do not stop and we will not stop until a cure is found. Our goal is to work with ZERO to create Generation ZERO - a generation free from prostate cancer deaths so others do not have to lose a Dad, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather, son to this awful disease.
We are so thankful for the sustained support from family and friends over the years. We could not have made it through this difficult time without all of you. Additionally, your support of ZERO over the years has contributed to many great breakthroughs in treatments that were not available 9 years ago, and help to give men a better quality of life and extend their life expectancy when diagnosed with the advanced disease. Progress has been made, but there is still a long way to go to end this disease. Unfortunately, we have watched close family friends battle this disease also, which only strengthens our passion to end prostate cancer.
The statistics are scary. One in seven fathers, sons, husbands, brothers, partners, and friends will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, including 4,820 men in VA this year alone. Prostate cancer is the #1 most diagnosed cancer in VA, and #2 leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S.
Team Nikituk is once again participating in the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk this year at Pentagon Row and we need your support! Please support our efforts by making a tax-deductible contribution today -- no amount is too small. Or join Team Nikituk this Father's Day at the Run/Walk. It is a fun, family-friendly event, a great way to honor the men in our lives, and there's even a Superhero race for the kids!
Your support provides much needed funds for research, education and awareness, and patient assistance for prostate cancer patients in our local community.
As we cross the finish line of the upcoming ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk, you’ll feel proud knowing you helped save lives and keep families together.
Thanks again for your support!
