Men and women in uniform - our police, fire and EMT heroes - we're calling on you to team up and show your support to end prostate cancer. Sign up and this November, have fun with your community, raise awareness of prostate cancer risks and fundraise for a noble cause: your fellow man.
"Our unit requires a clean shave"
Most do, but there are departments across the country that get a short-term exception to the rule during the fundraiser. Just have a chat with your captain, and tell him these solid reasons for taking up the cause:
- Every 15 Minutes
- An American man dies from prostate cancer
- Awareness Saves Lives
- Almost all men survive when it's caught early
Early detection can help reduce that frequency: the five-year survival rate of men who detected the disease early is nearly 100%. However, many men don't go to their routine check-ups or talk to their doctors about their risks. So, we're calling on all men to beard up this November and spread the word about prostate cancer.
Have any other units participated?
Yes! A great example is the Ozaukee County, WI and Laurel, MD stations who competed against each other to raise funds for prostate cancer research. The friendly competition between the police chiefs expanded into their local communities and raised significant awareness and funds for the cause. ZERO will provide a leaderboard so that you can track your progress against other first responder teams across the country. National bragging rights are at stake here.
Where does the money go?
ZERO puts every donation to good use. Funds raised through the Grow & Give campaign benefit prostate cancer research, patient programs, and awareness outreach. Together we've made a significant impact on the fight against the disease. More than 85¢ per dollar goes to programs and activities, and we have the best-possible 4-star rating from Charity Navigator.
