About the ZERO Run/Walk

How much goes to charity?

100% of donations go to ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer, a registered 501(c)(3) organization (tax id 59-3400922).

ZERO is the only national prostate cancer charity to receive the highest-possible 4-star rating for financial responsibility from Charity Navigator, and meets all 20 standards of accountability as an accredited charity member of the Better Business Bureau. And no other prostate cancer charity spends more per dollar on programs - more than 86 cents.

How are donations used?

The money raised by the Run/Walk helps drive free prostate cancer testing throughout the country as well as in the communities of each Run/Walk location. Grants are also awarded in race communities wherever they’ll have the most local impact on new programs, patient support, early detection, and awareness efforts. On a national level, your gift is invested to educate men about their risks, as well as to fund direct support for patients and their families. Finally, your dollars enable national efforts to protect and expand research funding and availability of care for prostate cancer testing and treatments.

I think my company matches employees’ charitable donations. How do I get this started?

When making your donation, please enter your company name in the matching gifts search tool. We'll have some information on whether or not your company matches, but please make sure to follow-up with your company to get this process started. .

Can I continue to collect donations after the walk?

Absolutely! Participants can fundraise up until two weeks after the event to be eligible for fundraising incentives. Please mail donations and forms to ZERO.

How can I receive an IRS tax receipt for my donation?

If you donated online, your tax receipt will be emailed to the email address you provided. If you donated via check, you can request a tax receipt by by emailing races@zerocancer.org.

Can I send you a check?

What is the difference between donating and registering?

A donation is a tax-deductible gift made to ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer. Donations can be credited to a specific team or participant’s fundraising efforts, or credited to the event as a general donation.

Are fees tax-deductible?

During registration, you will be asked if you would like to make a self-donation, and these gifts are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. The site may also offer the ability to increase your donation to help offset the cost of electronic processing, this too is considered a donation. Registration fees themselves are not tax-deductible, as they go entirely towards the costs of running the event. Please consult with your professional tax advisor to determine the financial ramifications of your specific situation.

Should I start a team or join as an individual?

If you have a friend or family member joining you, please start a team. If you are attending alone, please join as an individual. There is no minimum requirement for team size.

Is it better to register online or register the morning of the race?

There are many advantages to registering before the race. Here are just a couple:

  1. Knowing how many people to expect will help us plan for a better event for everyone. We order all items based on how many people have pre-registered for the event (shirts, water, finish line food, etc.).
  2. Each person that registers will receive a fundraising page within the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk website. This will give friends and family a place to go where they can donate directly to you online or get a donation form and mail a donation directly to us that will be credited to your page. You can also customize this page with a photo and special message about why you’re participating.

I accidentally registered as an individual and meant to join or start a team. What do I do?

No problem! If you would like to be added to a team or start your own team, simply send an email to races@zerocancer.org with your name, team name, and what city’s race you’re taking part in.

Online registration is closed. Can I still register?

Absolutely! You can register in person during early packet pickup and on race day.

I already registered, but want to change my registration type. Can I make that change?

Absolutely! We can change your registration type, please email races@zerocancer.org with your requested changes.

I registered and can no longer participate. Can I get a refund?

Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds on registration fees. We can convert your registration fee to a tax-deductible donation.

I want to participate but I’m busy that morning. What options do I have?

That’s why we have the virtual Snooze For Dudes! You can register through your local event’s website and have access to all the same tools and resources other registrants have a personal fundraising page, personal fundraising coaching, fundraising incentives, and a special Snooze for Dudes shirt mailed directly to your home.

Can I send you a check?

Donations can be mailed directly to ZERO or processed over the phone. Be sure to indicate the name of the event, and if applicable, the name of the team or individual whose fundraising efforts you are supporting. What if people want to give me cash?

Consolidation is key, so please send a personal check covering the full amount, along with corresponding donations forms to ZERO. We will be able to credit your friends and family for their generosity if you include their information.

Do I have to send in my donations? Can I bring them with me to the event?

You can always bring your donations with you to the event! Things are always hectic with walk-up registrations and packet pick-up, so please bring your donations in an envelope with your name/team name so they are properly credited to your fundraising efforts. Please expect additional time for processing before these donations will be reflected on your fundraising page...for this reason, we encourage you to mail in your donations in advance of race day so there is no delay.

I received a donation, but don’t see it on my fundraising page?

All mailed donations should appear on your page within two weeks of being received by ZERO. All race day donations will appear within four weeks. If you do not see your donations on your page, please email ZERO at races@zerocancer.org.

Is there a fundraising minimum to participate in the run/walk?

No. There is no fundraising minimum, but we need your help to end prostate cancer, please consider making a self-donation or raise at least $100. All registered participants and volunteers receive a personal fundraising page, fundraising coaching, and many tools, guides, and other resources to help you.

I want to fundraise, but I don’t know how. Where should I start?

We encourage all participants to customize their page with their own photo and story of why you’re participating. You can also send emails to friends and family, and easily track your donations. Please view our tips and tricks page for more information. You can also email ZERO’s National Events Team at races@zerocancer.org for assistance and ideas.

Does ZERO Provide a Team Captain Guide with tools on how to fundraise?

Yes! You can download the Team Captain’s guide here. It includes tips and samples of language to use to raise money, recruit more team members, and plan fundraisers that everyone can participate in.

Does ZERO provide fundraising tools for individual fundraisers?

Yes, we have a great Participant’s Guide, which provides tips, tricks, and suggestions for making the most of your fundraising. Your Chapter Director or other ZERO staff is also available for personalized fundraising coaching. Click here for individual fundraising tools.

Are there any awards or fundraising incentives for top fundraisers?

Yes! Our top three individual fundraisers, top three fundraising teams, and three largest teams will receive special recognition at the event (please note that all monies need to be in your accounts by 3 p.m. on the day prior to race to be eligible for these awards). Race Day FAQ

If I don't pick up my shirt at the race, can I get one mailed?

No, unfortunately due to the expense, shirts cannot be mailed. Your family or friends are able to pick up your shirt at packet pick-up or on race day for you.

Can I pick up packets for my family and friends?

Yes. We do allow runners to pick up bibs and shirts for their friends. Please note that shirts cannot be mailed.

What happens if it rains on the day of the race?

While every effort will be made to conduct the event, the race will be postponed or canceled if we judge the weather to be hazardous. Unfortunately, entry fees will not be refunded if the event is canceled.
