Team Old Man River is headed to Washington DC!
This year changed my life. The first man I ever loved was diagnosed with prostate cancer and as my husband uttered the news to me, I felt the floor fall out from under me. I know you all know how much the fight against prostate cancer means to me. I know I’ve asked for help and time and runners and money. And you have rallied behind me and next to my dad--my Old Man River. I will never be able to thank you properly for your love and support.
I’m not into politics. I’m not a lobbyist. I’m not an activist. But I’m a girl who is crazy about more than one person who has heard the words, “You have prostate cancer” and who longs for the day that nobody ever hears those words again...for the day no family has to feel that sucker punch. Because (as so many of you know from your own experiences) that’s exactly what it feels like. A punch to the damn jaw. And I'm a girl that knows that advances in treatment and support are not free.
I wanted to get more involved with ZERO. I fundraised all spring and summer, ran a 10K in September, fundraised a little more on Giving Tuesday, did a small part to raise some awareness that same week, and I’m really excited about what’s next.
This February, I am taking part in the ZERO Prostate Cancer Summit. I was selected by ZERO to represent my home district and advocate for prostate cancer research funding. I'll be joining over 120 other advocates from around the country to knock on our Congresspeople's doors and share why prostate cancer research is so critical to ending the disease.
As I prepare for this exciting opportunity, I, once again, need your help and I am not too proud to ask for it. I'm fundraising for ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer. They're making a real impact on the lives of patients and their families on a daily basis. Not only are they doing good, but they're doing it efficiently: more than 94 cents per dollar raised goes toward patient programs.
One in nine fathers, sons, and brothers will face prostate cancer. That’s just too many. That's at least one person you love. Together, we can end this disease.
Please support me by making a tax-deductible contribution today! You'll feel proud knowing that you're bringing another voice to our nation’s capitol to advocate on behalf of prostate cancer patients and their families. My goal is to be a top advocate AND fundraiser. Help me raise money for prostate cancer research and make a difference while in Washington, D.C.
