Do-Shave December
Every November for the last ten years, I have grown out my facial hair in observation of No-Shave November, a movement intended to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancer. In 2018 and 2019, I began using the event to raise money for ZeroCancer.org, a great organization that funds prostate cancer research and provides support to prostate cancer patients and their families.
This November, I was hesitant to ask for donations in a time when so many are suffering financially, emotionally, and physically. I decided to grow the beard, as is tradition, but without the intention of running the 3rd annual "Style Erik's Facial Hair" fundraiser. I prepared to shave my face as the month came to an end. December 1st finally arrived... as did the 2nd... and the 3rd....
I am writing this on the 5th of December, five days after my mother should have been allowed the relief of seeing her favorite son with a clean-shaven face. My mugshot is currently three times furrier than those of the dogs I walk daily. It didn't feel right for my first shave in over a month to not serve a purpose. My solution: condense No-Shave November into a week-long fundraising competition I will call "Do-Shave December."
There is no pressure to donate. Any amount would be immensely appreciated. However, you should know that there's a prize for the person who gives the largest donation by 11:59 PM on Sunday, December 13th.
The Winner gets the opportunity to choose any style in which I must wear my facial hair for 24 hours. This will include photographic evidence that I allowed for public viewership of the winner's masterpiece.
From Zerocancer.org:
One in nine fathers, sons, brothers, partners, and friends will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, including more than 191,000 throughout the U.S. this year alone.
Your donation will help fund research, patient programs that go directly to helping men and their families, free testing, educational programs, and more.
Please support this great cause by making a tax-deductible contribution today! You'll feel proud knowing that you're helping keep families together and saving lives.
