A Wee Ride
We might be a WEE team but we have BOLD goals!
We will accomplish these BOLD goals because this WEE team has two very determined (some might say stubborn) team captains that will not give up until we have ZEROED out Prostate Cancer. I am lucky to call my determined teammate my dad.
My dad and I have had a special bond for 41 years. From almost the day I started talking I always said to him “Buddies”. My buddy he is…my soccer supporter buddy, my travel buddy, my adventure buddy and most recently my bike buddy. The way we got to be biking buddies is not how I would have chosen but I am a firm believer in finding the positive in every situation.
My dad’s Prostate Cancer diagnosis was a shock to our family since he is an extremely healthy & active guy who had zero symptoms. After we all had time to process the news, my dad was already researching organizations that would not only give him resources to help navigate his journey but also connect with other patients and make a difference. He was fortunate to find ZERO Prostate Cancer and their wonderful team who have connected our entire family with others going through a similar journey that quickly became lifelong friends.
The 40-mile Maine Lighthouse bike ride I had signed my dad and I up for just before his diagnosis did not look like it was going to be doable with the many rounds of chemo ahead of him. However, between his grit and determination and the help of ZERO Prostate Cancer he took this opportunity to stay active, stay positive, and make a difference!
We formed the team A Wee Ride, started a fundraising page and hit the road on training rides between chemo sessions. My dad was such an inspiration watching him ride just days after a chemo session. We did several other fundraising events and were honored to receive one of the top individual Bold for Blue fundraiser awards for 2023. This was a huge accomplishment but there is more to be done in Saving Lives and Supporting Prostate Cancer Patients!
