Welcome to My Personal Page

At the start of September 2021, I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. I had no symptoms, I was relatively young and only discovered the problem because I had my second PSA test and my number had increased from 2.7 to 3.8 in 2 years. Technically speaking I was still within range for a man my age.
Through the diligence of an amazing urolologist and even more amazing human being, we found out I indeed had cancer and surgery was not a option, it was the only option. I asked “when?” and he said “October.” He said we could do November, but if I went out any farther, he would fight me.
October 11th I had the surgery and luckily the cancer hadn’t spread beyond the prostate. When I was recovering at home the surgeon told me that it was more aggressive than they had originally thought, a Gleason 8. I said in frustration “every time you guys look at this thing it gets worse!” He calmly said “You’re missing the point. We got it.”
Throughout my diagnosis, my recovery and even now, I found myself on “Dr. Google”, trying to learn more. “How bad is it?” “Will it come back?” “What is life expectancy?” It can be a dark hole.
But somewhere during those searches, I came across ZERO and learned how they are proponents of early testing! Most men don’t have a PSA test until they are 50. Had I waited until then, I’m not sure I would have caught it in time.
They help patients and caregivers manage the care system, help set up mentors (I am now one) and even help with ride assistance to and from treatments. Through ZERO 360, they assist with helping patients who need help affording treatment.
I work with them throughout the year, talking to legislators, reviewing grant proposals, mentoring patients and of course, growing a Papa Smurf like beard and raising money. Despite the itchiness and shockingly white whiskers, it’s my favorite event!
I hope you’ll consider donating and helping me reach my goal of $15,000 this year. We hit over $10,000 last year so I know we can do it! Thanks for hearing my story and let’s ZERO out Cancer!!!
