In 2008 my life changed forever. I’ll never forget where I was or who I was with when I got a call from my sister asking me to get home as soon as possible. My dad had been battling prostate cancer for 2 years and at that point had only hours left to live.

Fortunately, I was able to make it home to give him one last hug and let him know we’d be alright, but not a day goes by that I don’t think about him in some facet. Whether it’s something that jogs a memory or simply looking at my daughter wishing she had the chance to know her Granddad, he’s never far from thought.

For those that knew him, know that he was a stubborn man, so when the doctor told him he had 3 weeks to live no one should have been overly surprised he lived for another 2 years. It was simply through the grace of God that we got to spend that extra time with him. Through highs and lows he was still there. Cancer took a lot away from him in those 2 years but his unrelenting love for his family never wavered. Whether it was live streaming a graduation ceremony he was physically unable to attend or miraculously gaining mobility to see me play basketball in person again, he was always there physically or mentally.
