My Why: For as long as I can remember cancer has been a word that I have known. When I was young I watched my Opa battle the devastating effects of prostate cancer. At the time I couldn’t comprehend what cancer was but I know that he was sick. When I was in 5th grade I remember kissing my Opa goodbye as he sat in his chair in the living room of my grandparents house. I was young but I knew it would be that last time I’d see him here on earth. Fast forward 5 years later, my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I am not here to tell my dads story but what I do know is that he took the knowledge that he had surrounding his family history and being high risk and instead of pushing it away or pretending it didn’t exist he handled it head on with bravery and courage. I will always be proud of him for that. Because of his bravery in facing this disease he is here with us today
