I'm Running the NYC Marathon for Prostate Cancer Patients (& For Tom)
About 1 in every 8 men (fathers, sons, brothers, partners, and friends) will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer during their lifetime. Prostate Cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed in men in the U.S. and when detected early, has a 5-year survival rate exceeding 99%.
I will be running the New York City Marathon this November to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer, a cause that is very personal to my family, as well as many others globally who are affected by the disease. By way of background, in high school, my uncle Tom was diagnosed with Stage IV prostate cancer which he fought hard before later succumbing to the disease when it reached his bones. My uncle truly was the "glue" to my family and he played a large part in my life as one of my biggest supporters. Before his passing, he made my dad promise that he would finally go to the doctor for a blood test (a man who typically avoids the doctor’s office at all costs!) and despite having absolutely zero symptoms, he was diagnosed with advanced stage III prostate cancer. Fortunately, he is now in remission after receiving world-class care at the BC Cancer Agency with my uncle to thank for saving his life and our family. I have three older brothers (Westley, Lange, and Lucas) who now stay on top of their health, understanding the difference early detection makes. We miss Tom every single day but his legacy lives on through all of us and my hope is that through his story and this fundraising, at least one person will feel encourage to go and get tested.
I will be running for my dad, Tom, and all of the other men out there fighting and those who have lost their lives to this disease. I have pledged to raise at least $10,000 for Team Zero, a non-profit organization seeking to put an end to the disease, and am asking for your support to achieve and surpass this goal. Your donation will provide funds for research, educational programs, patient financial assistance, and early detection programs.
Every donation brings us one step closer in our fight to end the disease. Thank you for supporting me and joining my journey to make a difference in the lives of prostate cancer patients.
