A Message From My Heart
One in eight fathers, sons, husbands, brothers, partners, and friends will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, including over 5,800 men in Ohio this year alone, and I am one of those, having been diagnosed in February of 2017.
It was a bit of a shock to find out that a disease such as cancer has invaded my body. Practicing preventive medicine, exercising regularly, and being reasonably cautious regarding my diet were supposedly my tickets to avoiding the kind of diagnosis that hit me in February. While prostate cancer is incurable, it is also a very slow-growing, non-aggressive, form of this insidious disease. Fortunately, there are also therapies available which can provide a fairly good life for a number of years for someone in my situation.
The ZERO Prostate Cancer organization is one of the leading avenues of support for the continuing research into a possible cure, as well as various programs and services to aid patients and survivors. My family and I have decided to become involved with the ZERO group and participate in their various activities, including their annual Run/Walk which takes place here in Cleveland during the month of August each year.
Our participation in their events won't change my diagnosis or eliminate the tears and emotions that accompany it. But, at least we can feel proud, and hopeful, that our efforts will help others in our situation and, maybe, even be part of solution that saves the lives of others in the future. Please team up with me, and my family, with a donation which will provide funds for research education, and awareness.
