The Why behind Team Racer X
This handsome man of mine is a 2.5 year survivor of prostate cancer!!! Thus my personal fundraising goal of $2.5K.
EARLY DECTECTION saves lives and saved Jim's (of course along with our LORD, the Great Physician)!! Almost weekly I hear of a friend who has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer and too frequently hear of one that has died FROM prostate cancer. Education and awareness are my primary goals and I am always open to talking with people about prostate cancer.
Men PLEASE know your PSA at age 50!! However, if you have a family member who has faced prostate cancer, start knowing your PSA at age 40!!! Several years ago research revealed that if a man's PSA is 0.8 at age 40, he has a significant risk of future life threatening prostate cancer. Two groups of men have 1 in 2 chance of getting prostate cancer: 1) Men who have a family history and 2) African American males.
Jim had his first PSA test at age 40 and his number 1.04 and he has a family history of prostate cancer. He was diagnosed at age 56, which is 17 years younger than his dad's diagnosis. He went on to have a radical prostatectomy. Needless to say, I am thankful Jim continues to watch his PSA, which is UNDECTABLE! Today he is fully recovered and doing well!! We celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary on July 12!
I'm participating in the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk because I want to put an end to prostate cancer. Please support me by making a tax-deductible contribution today!
Your donation provides much needed funds for research, education and awareness, and patient assistance for prostate cancer patients in our local community through Bethesda Health Clinic.
Team up with RACER X to fight prostate cancer!
