It’s been a whirlwind year. On June 21st of last year, I rang the bell for my salvage radiation treatment. Due to the medical uncertainty that my treatment might provide any physical benefit, the one thing I promised myself was that I was going to lead a new life; I would strive to make each day count and I would try my best to be a good person.
Through the time of last year’s Zero race, I became focused on raising funds for the cause. Soon after the race, we became aware that my wife Diane had breast cancer. My pledge quickly shifted to trying to be the best husband I could be.
Thanks to the great care Diane received at Minnesota Oncology, all indications are that she has beaten this disease. She is now receiving radiation treatment at the same MRO clinic I was at last year. I keep thinking that it is all about her now, but seeing the same doctor, nurse, radiation technicians, and receptionist is very emotional for me. They may have “only” treated me in their best professional manner, but it was their actions that changed my entire worldview and I will always be in their debt.
Bottom line, don’t be afraid to take action on your fight against prostate cancer. Please consider donating to Zero so many others can take the steps to fight the disease.
