Please support me as I compete in the OREGON 70.3 IRONMAN race to fundraise for Prostate Cancer!
For my dad.
As many of you know, my father, Owen Beers, was diagnosed with advanced stage metastatic prostate cancer in 2022. Every day, I am amazed at his strength, determination, and optimism while fighting this disease, but it has been difficult to see the toll it has taken on him. In the two years since his diagnosis, I have watched him struggle, mentally, physically, and emotionally – it truly affects everything. With little ability to contribute to his overall health, his diagnosis has made me feel helpless at times, and has me thinking a lot about the future of my whole family.
My father is a huge source of joy and support in my life – he’s always been my champion – and I started to consider how I could be HIS champion and channel some of my feelings into something I enjoy. Not only to give me a goal to concentrate on, but also to provide an opportunity to make a measurable impact on a cause that now means so much to me – curing prostate cancer. So, I found team ZERO, a non-profit whose mission is to help cure prostate cancer, and has a fundraising program with the race of your choice.
With my father, and all those battling and effected by prostate cancer, as my inspiration, I've signed up to compete in my first 70.3 HALF IRONMAN RACE.
An Iron-what??
IRONMAN is a long-distance endurance multisport race (triathlon) consisting of swimming, cycling, and running over various distances. I will be completing a total of 70.3 miles in Salem, Oregon on 7/21/24 in solidarity with team ZERO. My race will comprise of:
- 1.2 mile swim down the Willamette River
- 56 mile cycle through the suburbs alongside the Willamette River
- 13.1 mile run through Salem’s Riverfront Park
About Prostate Cancer
1 in 8 fathers, sons, brothers, partners, and friends will face a prostate cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. It is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men in the US. While 99% of early diagnosed patients will surpass the 5-year survival rate, that number drops to 34% for advanced staged patients, like my father, where the disease cannot be cured.
My goal is to raise $5,000 to contribute to ZERO’s support in fighting Prostate cancer.

With love and gratitude,
Nadine <3
