Running the Chicago Marathon in Support of Team ZERO
"The results of your biopsy came back: you have cancer." I am not sure those are words anyone is ever prepared to hear. I knew prostate cancer was a risk for all men, that it increases with age, is typically slow growing, not aggressive and was more typically diagnosed in men in their late 60s. I didn’t know that ~ 6% of prostate cancer cases were diagnosed in men aged 45–54, so for me hearing those words and starting to learn more about it at age 51 was most certainly not something I was prepared for. I also wasn’t prepared for the rest of the words that day, “…have you ever considered seeing one of our specialists downtown? Everything we talked about…slow growing…not aggressive…that doesn’t apply to your cancer…” That was the beginning of my journey.
Less than a year later, I am on the road to recovery working toward the day I can say I am in remission. As part of my recovery and therapy I have committed to running the 2025 Bank of America Chicago Marathon in support of Team ZERO, with a goal of raising at least $2,000 to support prostate cancer patients and their families. Every donation brings us one step closer to Generation ZERO - the first generation of men free from prostate cancer. Your donation will provide critical funds for research, patient financial assistance, early detection and educational programs. Thank you in advance for supporting me in my journey and for making a difference in the lives of prostate cancer patients around the country.
