2024 DIY Team ZERO

The Great Escape

3 Family Members, 2 Iconic Endurance Events, 1 Cause - Supporting Team Zero

Mike, Matt, and Megan decided to leverage our participation in two epic endurance events this spring to collectively impact the battle against prostate cancer. Together, we're on a mission to end prostate cancer and support those affected.

Join us in this shared journey as we hit the pavement and battle waves to strive for a future free from prostate cancer. Every contribution propels us closer to our goal, funding crucial initiatives like research, patient support, early detection, and education programs.

The Boston Marathon

Megan returns to Boston after her debut sub-3-hour effort back in 2022. As part of that effort, Megan also raised a significant amount of funds for Dana-Farber.

Since then, Megan has totally caught the marathon bug and has run several races from the 10k to marathon distance. Now after a quick turnaround from a recent PR of 2:54 at the Wilmington Marathon at the end of February, she’s stoked to be back and ready to soak in the magic of Boston!

Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon

No strangers to triathlons, in a case of "I double dog dare you", Matt and Mike both threw their names in the Escape from Alcatraz lottery last fall. The chances of either one of us getting selected were low but the chances of both of us getting selected were even lower. Imagine our surprise when we both found out we were in!

The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon features a 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shores of San Francisco Bay, a grueling 18-mile bike ride, and a demanding 8-mile run through the trails of the Golden Gate Recreational Area.

But let's face it, this will all be about the swim. There's a reason Alcatraz as a maximum security penitentiary was located where it is. Thought to be escape-proof due to strong currents, frigid water temperatures (55 in June), and the presence of abundant marine life including seals, sea lions, and oh yes, sharks.
