Welcome to My ZERO Peaks Challenge Fundraising Page
Hello! I’m Joe Correy and I’m very excited to be a part of the Zero Peaks Challenge Team that will summit Kilimanjaro in September. This incredible event aims to raise awareness and educate the world about the impacts of prostate cancer.
How did I end up on this team?
As they say, life comes at you fast. I avoided going to the doctor until my 50-year-old physical. Thankfully, I went. That’s when they started checking my PSA levels and prostate health. Since prostate cancer often shows no obvious symptoms, getting that follow-up call was a complete surprise.
As they say, life comes at you fast. I avoided going to the doctor until my 50-year-old physical. Thankfully, I went. That’s when they started checking my PSA levels and prostate health. Since prostate cancer often shows no obvious symptoms, getting that follow-up call was a complete surprise.
Luckily the doctors caught it early and worked quickly. After a few months, I moved into recovery and monitoring. Throughout that time, I had incredible support from family, friends, and—most importantly—two men who had experienced prostate cancer themselves. They became my sounding boards, counselors, and mentors. They helped me understand what I was facing, separate fact from fiction, and find valuable resources. Most importantly, they reminded me I wasn’t alone.
In the 7 years since, I’ve tried to pay it forward and help others who are on this same ride. Every few months I somehow connect with another man who is struggling with what their future holds as they navigate this path. Through the Peaks Challenge, I aim to raise funds, share our stories, and ensure future patients have the support they need.
Facing Reality and Moving Forward
A year after my diagnosis, I was still struggling with the reality that it could come back. I dreaded the quarterly blood tests and the anxiety of waiting for the results. A mentor shared a perspective that changed my outlook: he told me to think of it as “I had cancer for a few months”—the time from diagnosis to surgery—not that I was a cancer victim or survivor.

A mentor shared a perspective that changed my outlook: he told me to think of it as “I had cancer for a few months”—the time from diagnosis to surgery—not that I was a cancer victim or survivor.
That advice empowered me to take on new challenges, chase my dreams and enjoy life fully. Last year, I went to Japan and climbed Mt. Fuji. This year, climbing Kilimanjaro to raise awareness about prostate cancer feels like the perfect next step, showing that life doesn’t have to stop being great after a cancer diagnosis.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Please support our team and the Zero Cancer Organization by making a donation. Together, we can make a difference.
I am taking part in the ZERO Peaks Challenge and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness and provide much-needed support for prostate cancer patients, the 2nd most common cancer in men. Please help me in supporting ZERO Prostate Cancer as we grow closer to a world free of prostate cancer deaths.
Every dollar raised supports families impacted by prostate cancer. Your effort brings hope to countless lives. And help to break down barriers to bring us closer to a future free of deaths from this disease.
