Prostate Cancer can take a hike!
Thank you to all of my donors who supported my 5k! I completed it on a RARE BEAUTIFUL day in November…then I got an email about this trip. I’ve never been to the other side of the world. I’ve never been on a flight longer than 6 hours. I’ve never particularly wanted to summit any mountain (thanks, Mountain Queen: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa). I’ve never raised so much money. I’ve never been at higher altitudes than 6400 ft. But, I just couldn’t get the thought of this trip out of my head.
Since my dad’s diagnosis of stage 4 prostate cancer on September 6, 2024, I’ve watched him struggle with pain, bladder issues, and discomfort, start hormone and chemo therapies, and experience the entire range of human emotions. In my feeling of helplessness (a state that I imagine many loved ones go through) I have gone down the rabbit hole. I’ve learned that we could have caught this much sooner if not for the medical and general population’s (not least of which…my own) lack of education and understanding of how this disease works.
NO MAN HAS TO GET SICK OR BE IN PAIN BECAUSE OF PROSTATE CANCER! NO MAN HAS TO DIE. NONE! ZERO! That’s a fact, and it is ZERO Prostate Cancer’s mission.
SO…I am taking part in the ZERO Peaks Challenge and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness and provide much-needed support for prostate cancer patients, the 2nd most common cancer in men.
Thanks to our corporate sponsor, Tolmar, my trip is paid for as long as I raise enough funds! So, every dollar donated goes directly to supporting ZERO Prostate Cancer’s programs that provide assistance and support to men and their families impacted by prostate cancer (and it’s tax deductible)! Your generosity brings hope to countless lives (including ours)!
