Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp. Today, we hit Karanga and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail and continue our upward trek to Barafu Hut. Barafu means ice and we will start to feel cooler temperatures. It’s a short 3 mile day with an early stop to allow us to prepare for the summit night.
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp. Today, we have an easy morning ascent up the famous Barranco Wall, which looks scarier than it is. Paths are well worn and it’s a fun change of pace as we celebrate atop the Barranco Wall before descending down to the Karanga Camp for an overall 3.5 mile hike.
Shira Camp 2 - Lava Tower - Barranco Camp. Today is extremely important for acclimatization. You will start and end the day at the same elevation but will go up 3,000 ft to the Lava Tower before continuing down to Barranco Hut for a total of 6.7 miles.

Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Hut. Today, we start our journey between midnight and 2am as we are headed to the Summit between Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. It’s cold and dark and the first few hours are a challenge. But as dawn breaks, over the African plains your energy will be renewed as we head to the Summit and reach the Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and Africa. Once hitting the Summit, we will begin our trek back down. Tonight is our last night sleeping on the mountain. Today we go up 3 miles and come down 7.5 miles.
Mweka Camp to Gate. Today, we finish descending down to the gate to receive your summit certificate. You will be transported back to the hotel for a good night sleep knowing you hit your goal.
Departure. Today, you are on your own. You can participate in a safari or just head home (or onto other adventures).
